No Chinese Language Included in NEP List for Foreign Languages


 
Counting upon the concurrent events by China towards India, it has been a strict action towards the dragon’s land that India will not include the Chinese language for its foreign language. According to the latest news about recent NEP reform, the National Education Policy (NEP), approved by the Union cabinet, confirms that there is no inclusion of the Chinese language in the new NEP list. According to the sources, it is said that the Chinese language (other than mandarin and Cantonese) got drafted in 2019, and was released for the students for taking up their second language. 

But, amidst escalating tension across the LAC (Line of Actual Control), this decision got fanned and implemented. Well, as stated in the national policy on education 2019, languages like French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese got inked for an optional second language.  

It was also learned that the recent NEP reform was implemented by the center on an agreement to erase the Chinese language from the NEP list. 

This decision was followed by the recent NEP reform in the policy which got approved by Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. According to the recent reform implemented in the National Policy on Education 2020, a new education structure will be followed in the nation.  

There have been some of the new NEP Highlights which have been discussed here. 

  • Existing 10+2 structure to be changed to 5+3+3+4 structure. This segment's first three years will be mainly based upon kinder-garden and nursery based education. 
  • Followed by a foundation based on 3 and 2 years that will include playschool and grades one and two. 
  • Emphasis on Early Childhood Care and Education or ECCE that is segmentized for the 3-6 age-group. There the provisions will be framed for Universal access to high qualify ECCE across the country. 
  • As per the recent NEP reform, 4 years for higher secondary gets to lift. Art, Commerce, Science removed. Students will be let free to choose any subject. Coding to begin from class 6. Music, Arts, Sports will be at the same level. Students will be given increased flexibility and choose subjects they want to study for their secondary education. Early childhood care and education to get a complete national mission on Foundation Literacy and Numeracy. 
  • Curriculum education will get reduced Core education. 
Apart from this, the other foreign languages that will continue to get learned and included in the curriculum are - Korean, Japanese, Thai, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian. According to sources, it will be best for ‘students to learn about the cultures of the world and enrich their global knowledge and mobility according to their interests and aspiration.’ 

Apart from this, strict action was implemented after banning more than 100 Chinese apps. Foreign-language teachers have also claimed that the Chinese language was gaining popularity in Bengaluru and was about to bypass the dominance of the Japanese language.
