COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION
Community transmission refers to the situation when there is no clarity of the origin of an infection in the community. Herein one cannot decipher how and due to whose contact someone became infected.

According to the WHO (World Health Organization), community transmission is the third stage amongst the four stages of a pandemic. As per WHO’s official definition community transmission is,

“evidenced by the inability to relate confirmed cases through chains of transmission for a large number of cases, or by increasing positive tests through sentinel samples (routine systematic testing of respiratory samples from established laboratories.)”

COVID-19 COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION
As per the latest news, the community transmission of Coronavirus is real and has already entered various countries. Community transmission is the third and one of the most lethal stages of COVID- 19.

In the first stage, the patients have a travel history from an affected country;
In the second stage, a person coming from the affected country transmits the disease to other people coming in his contact;

In the third stage, that is, community transmission of Coronavirus, the source of the virus cannot be found. Also, there is no travel history;

In the fourth and last stage, there is a wide Coronavirus outbreak. The cases multiply rapidly and Coronavirus turns into an endemic.

With more than 10 lacs Covid-19 patients, India is being speculated to have entered the third phase of the Coronavirus. The latest news recommends the following actions to combat community transmission of Coronavirus:
  • Laboratory
  • Clinical management and health-care services
  • Incident management, planning, and multisectoral coordination
  • Surveillance and risk assessment
  • Operational logistics
  • Non-pharmaceutical public health measures
