Chinese Apps Banned in India, US backs India for its Jumbo Step



Mike Pompeo welcomed the Chinese apps ban and said, “can serve as appendages of the Chinese Communist Party’s Surveillance State”. This was yet received after India encrypted public access to 59 Chinese oriented apps that were supposed to surveillance over Indian data and user information. 

The US-Secretary of the state Pompeo further added that “a clean app approach will boost India’s sovereignty and enhance the integrity and national security.” Alongside according to the latest news search engine giant Google has chucked-off 100 malicious Chrome extensions that were informed to use the user’s personal data, taking screenshots and taking heed of passwords that are generally hidden from any vulnerability. 

Additionally, an advisor was issued by India’s Computer Emergency Response that claimed that these malicious extensions posed as a tool to improve web searches, convert files between different formats, as security scanners and more. 

According to the latest news, the Indian Government has come down heavily to restrict the usage of Chinese apps and further blocking public access. According to the latest news, it has been learned that the Indian Government has jammed 59 Chinese apps that are reported to be originating from China.  

Among these 59 Chinese apps, there were many used apps like Beauty Plus, Tik Tok, UC Browser, Helo, Xiaomi App, ShareIt, and more. According to the official sources, it is learned that on the legal ground such strict and irrevocable action has been put into action. Further as stated in the latest news in Hindi, it is learned that such restriction has been applied under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000. 

 

Further, it was also released in the latest news about the legality of the restriction. According to a recent tweet by the Ministry of Law and Justice- Ravi Shankar Prasad, he stated, “For safety, security, defense, sovereignty and integrity of India and to protect data and privacy of people in India that the government has banned 59 mobile apps.” 

As the government bolted the banning of Chinese apps, it further adds that previously the Ministry has received various information leading information breach from mobile phones or information getting mishandled and shared over public domain without any notice of the original information holder. As stated in the latest news, the Ministry of Information and Technology said, “Ultimately affected the sovereignty and integrity of India. This is a matter of concern and immediate action that has been taken for betterment.” 

How the Ban has been Enforced? 

The complete process of blocking public access to Chinese apps will get enforced by the varied Internet providers in the days to come. A government notification by the Ministry is said to get inboxed with the instructions to block an app. Here, the user will soon get a message saying the app has been restricted from proper functioning as demarcated by the government. 

Additionally, it is also learned through the latest news in Hindi that this restriction will heavily impact apps like TikTok or UC Browser as these apps require daily feeds. But, contrary to normal functioning, the user can access the app without internet access also that will not get shared over the platform. As stated in the latest news, it is also learned that further downloads and scheduled updates will not take place as these will get blocked from Google’s Play Store or App Store. 


Will Change be Good for People? 

Commenting over Chinese apps banned, Sumit Ghosh Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer-Chingari App quoted, “This is a good initiative taken by the Indian Government and IT Ministry of India. For quite long, TikTok was spying over the account holders and sending it back to its original base (i.e. China). We are very happy that this step has been finally taken. I thank and congratulate Narendra Modi Sir. We assure we would like to welcome TikTok users to switch and try Chingari that is especially 100% Indian designed and dedicatedly built for passionate Indians.” 

Further, it is also expected that with the sudden shut of the Chinese apps, there will be appraisal for Indian based apps that were long unused by maximum users. According to the latest news, such apps are Chingaria, Bolo Indya, Roposo, Mitron, and many others. 

While the restrictions have been implemented hard with the rising tension between India and China. There are also ongoing protests and marches that are taking across the streets to ‘Boycott China’. 

Further according to the information update by the sources it is said that as soon as Google and Apple will receive copies of Government orders. It will soon remove the 59 banned Chinese apps from its database. 

Notably, the fierce clash and rising tension between India and China in Galwan Valley, there is also globally a communication that is going on regarding data breaking and spying through the servers and database across varied Indian information and mobile devices. 

On the restriction imposed on TikTok, UC Browser, Xiaomi; Vivek Chandy, Joint Managing Partner at J Sagar Associates said, “The access to, and storage and usage of, Data of Indian Users by several these apps was a concern for some time already. While the protection of the data may be articulated, its impact on the companies concerned will remain to be seen. In addition to this move, the Indian government should look into strengthening user’s data with data privacy and protection laws.”
